Target Audience

Target Audience

As a group, we decided that the film certificate rating was a 12. We came to this decision due to the content which the film holds. Our reasons for the rating follow; Strong Language may be used moderately throughout the film therefore the audience will need to be mature about it, sex MAY be suggested in the film as Lola has a boyfriend, however it will be discreet and will not be mentioned frequently, violence will be shown in the film, however it will not dwell on blood and injuries. Taking all this into consideration, we decided that the minimum viewing age for our film will be a 12.

Both main characters in our film Lola, will be teenage girls, therefore we feel that we have an advantage as we can attract a similar age group as a target audience so they can emotionally and sympathetically connect with the characters. We feel that a suitable target audience will be aged between twelve and late twenties. Our reasoning for this is we feel that a younger audience will be able to relate to the characters In the film. Although our target audience is both male and female, the male audience may feel like they cannot personally connect with the film due to the main cast being both female, however, we have included some equally important male roles in the film which helps to attract a male audience also. As teenagers ourselves, we understand that life can be confusing and daunting, therefore the purpose of our film is to reach out to other teens and reflect issues which they may also have faced. An example of a similar film which has a similar target audience would be The fault in our stars,  this film also includes a teenage female and male lead role to attract the attention of a similar target audience. Below you will find the trailer of  The fault in our stars.

The target audience must also have a keen interest in Drama films but more specifically supernatural-dramas. Again we feel that the audience must like the idea of the 'unknown' and clash between reality and fantasy. What is real and what is not? For our film we have taken inspiration from other popular blockbusters such as The sixth sense, My sisters keeper,  The invisible and  The lovely bones.  These all have similar storey lines and were extremely successfully, so we merged key element from other similar genre films and included them into ours ultimately creating a Drama which would appeal to the chosen audience. Below you will find the trailer to the film  My sisters keeper.

Due to our film distributer (working title) being British, we will use British actors and actresses again to relate to the to the target audience, who will be mainly, British people. Below, you will find the trailer of a working title distributed film,  About a boy. Although this drama film is not a supernatural-drama, it has been distributed by the same company we intend to use, and of which will contain key elements that will be used in our film.
