Due to genre of our film, supernatural-drama, we need to keep things as normal as possible to create an element of realism. We do not want to give away the ending and want to keep the audience intrigued, therefore, although we will foreshadow the ending throughout, we don't want to give too much away.
Lighting- Towards the end of our film, we want he lighting to be really bright and during editing we will possible filter it to make it really fluorescent. This will be done to signify that Lola is going to heaven and is no longer in Limbo. Typically, bright lights can be associated and linked in with acceptance of death and onwards towards the 'afterlife' and 'heaven' implying that both girls are going to a happier place, ultimately, this then creates a happier ending Contrastingly, the lighting used at the beginning and middle of our film will be quite dull and murky. This can be used to signify the idea that both girls are in 'limbo'. The darkness will imply that the girls are alone and give them the impression that although things may seem normal, something feels wrong.
At the beginning of our film we will use dark, dull lighting like the one in this image taken from the film sixth sense. The dark lighting gives connotations of sadness, loneliness and the unknown. I feel this will help set the scene and link the the genre.
Ghosts- A supernatural drama always has an element of realism therefore we have the intensions of making things look very normal with a slight twists. In our film both main characters are ghosts, although, we don't want them looking fictional or too stereotypical (e.g. wearing long white gowns and making ghostly howls) therefore we will keep them as normal as possible. However, we will try to make the characters look slightly paler. Also, when editing, we will try to fade the characters slightly to give the audience the impression that the characters are a little unusual, this will become distinct towards the end of the film when both the dead and alive are in the same frame as the audience will see the contrast between the different characters.
Again, I have used a picture of Susie Salmon from The lovely bones to illustrate how we will want our characters to look and give them that ghostly vibe.
Emotional- Due to the genre of our film, Drama, we decided to include a dramatic twist which will engage the audience gaining their sympathy and ultimately enabling them to emotionally connect. We thought we would use a tragic accident ( a car crash) to create a sense of realism and build up a dramatic climax for the film. To do this, we will need to create a scene where the accident has taken place. We decided that to create this scene we will lay out flowers and cards at the side of a road and use some 'do not cross' police tape to show that it was once an accident scene. I think that the tragic accident element of our film helps to establish the genre as it can be associated with drama related films.
The picture to the left is an example of what we will be trying to achieve in our film.
Unresolved issue- Just like in any other drama film, to keep the audience intrigued and interested an issue must arise in the film and eventually build up a dramatic climax. Therefore, to include this in our film to make it relevant for the genre, we decided that the issue will be Lola struggling to come to terms with her death. Just like any other drama film, the climax comes to a dramatic finish at the end of the film, this is where Lola will accept her death and move on with her life.
The fault in our stars is a good example of a Drama film where the there is an unresolved issue. A young girl and boy fall in love but are both terminally ill with cancer. After the boy dies, the girl finds it difficult to cope with the boys death. However, she then realises that although he is gone, her love for him will always remain strong. I think that this film could be compared with ours as they both have similar issues that arise and have similar themes, death and acceptance.
