Research into similar film genres/storylines

Research into film genre: Drama
Definition: Drama film is a genre that relies on the emotional and relational development of realistic characters. While Drama film relies heavily on this kind of development, dramatic themes play a large role in the plot as well. Often, these dramatic themes are taken from intense, real life issues. Whether heroes or heroines are facing a conflict from the outside or a conflict within themselves, Drama film aims to tell an honest story of human struggles.
Sub genre - Supernatural: Supernatural film is a genre that centers around supernatural elements, such as ghosts, gods, goddesses, and miracles. Supernatural films deal with the unknown questions of life; therefore, they tend to incorporate religious elements into the plot. Since they emphasize the unknown, Supernatural films are considered quite suspenseful.

Similar films with storyline/drama genre:

My Sisters Keeper

Plot summary: Anna Fitzgerald was conceived via in vitro so that her parents could have a genetic match and donor for their older daughter, Kate who has leukemia. But after years being tested and prodded, Anna decides to take her parents to court herself so that she could be emancipated from them when it comes to anything medical. But her mother refuses to it so the whole thing goes to court. And it nearly tears the family apart.

This film is similar in the way that it has an emotional connection with the audience. In our film, we want a character which will either have an illness/accident which is life threatening causing the character to die. We want the character to touch the audience in order to create emotion in the shocking unexpected
ending.

P.S I Love You

Plot summary: Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead. Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of letters that will guide her, not only through her grief, but in rediscovering herself. The first message arrives on Holly's 30th birthday in the form of a cake, and to her utter shock, a tape recording from Gerry, who proceeds to tell her to get out and "celebrate herself". In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way; P.S. I Love
You

This film is similar in the way that the main character Holly is coming to terms with her husbands death. In the film, she often see's him in memories whilst she is grieving which is something similar that we want to achieve with our main character. This film is also very emotional which is something we also want to achieve.

The Fault In Our Stars

Plot summary: Hazel and Augustus are two teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that Hazel's other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they meet and fall in love at a cancer support group.

This film is similar to ours in the way both main characters are going through a tragedy. This film is very emotional therefore we can get inspiration to make our film produce similar feelings. The film also includes a boyfriend which goes through heartbreak which is a similar plot line that happens in our film.
